CountertopsHevea butcher block and slab countertops for kitchens, bars and baths
Warm, pale and hard-wearing when finished well. Send the plan, the finish and the quantity. Up to 3 Vietnamese workshops reply with photos of real tops, samples and a quote.
Three ways a top is built
Construction changes the look more than people expect. Ask to see a photo of each option in your grade.
| Full-stave butcher block | Full-length staves glued edge to edge. Long, calm grain lines with no end joints on the face. |
|---|---|
| Finger-jointed block | Shorter pieces joined end to end with finger joints. Busier look, lower cost, efficient use of timber. |
| Slab-style top | Wider boards selected and matched for a single-slab look, straight or live edge. |
Where Hevea countertops work
Kitchen islands and counters
Usually 2400 x 900 x 38 mm for an island. Food-safe oil where you prep food, matte polyurethane where you mostly serve.
Bar and cafe tops
Matte polyurethane or hardwax oil for high traffic, with edge profiles shaped for elbow comfort.
Vanity tops
Sealed on every face for wet zones, with cut-outs and basin reveals made to spec and a template proof in the crate.
Desks and workstations
26 or 38 mm tops for fixed or sit-stand frames, with cable grommets placed to your drawing.
Retail and display
Counters and display tops for shops and showrooms, often ordered with matching shelves.
Shelving and mantles
Cut from offcuts of larger tops. Same wood, same finish, in a mixed pallet with the main order.
Choosing a finish
Typical options offered by Vietnamese Hevea workshops. Order a finished sample and look at it in your own light before you decide.
| Finish | Best for |
|---|---|
| Raw sanded | Buyers or installers who finish on site |
| Food-safe mineral oil blend | Prep surfaces and chopping zones; re-oil regularly |
| Hardwax oil | Natural matte look with better water resistance; spot-repairable |
| Matte polyurethane | Bar tops, desks, islands used for serving; hardest wearing |
| Custom stain match | Matching joinery or a designer colour reference |

Countertop FAQ
What size is a typical Hevea kitchen island top?
The most requested size is about 2400 x 900 x 38 mm. Standard thicknesses are 26, 38 and 50 mm, standard lengths run to 3000 mm and custom lengths to about 4000 mm. Send your cabinet plan and the workshop will confirm overhangs and joins.
Which finish is best for a kitchen countertop that touches food?
For a surface you cut or prepare food on, a food-safe mineral oil blend or a hardwax oil rated for food contact is the usual choice, with regular re-oiling. Matte polyurethane is harder wearing and suits islands and bar tops where you do not chop directly on the wood.
Can the workshop cut sink and cooktop openings?
Yes. Send the appliance model sheets or a full-size template and the workshop can cut openings, basin reveals and cable grommets before finishing, so the cut edges are sealed. Vanity tops for wet zones should be fully sealed on all faces.
Is there a minimum order for butcher block countertops?
Butcher block is often priced by the 20ft container, roughly 80 to 120 pieces depending on size, which suits kitchen studios and retailers. Single tops and small projects are usually combined into a mixed pallet. Minimums vary by workshop, so state your quantity in the request.
