Three grades, three characters
Grade describes appearance, not strength. Pick it from photos of real pieces and confirm with a sample.
Clear
Minimal knots and even colour. The quiet, pale look for minimal kitchens and Japanese or Scandinavian interiors.
Balanced
Small knots and light colour variation. Warmer and more natural, and usually easier on the budget than Grade A.
Rustic
Natural character: larger knots, mineral streaks and colour shifts. Suits live-edge, cafe and farmhouse interiors.
Typical sizes and properties

What a good workshop reply looks like
The actual piece
Shot in natural light, both faces and both edges, with a tape measure in frame.
Measured, not nominal
Length, width, thickness and moisture reading for the slab, not a catalogue size.
Your finish
A finished sample in the grade and finish you chose, so colour is judged in your light.
Clear terms
Price per piece, finish, crate, Incoterm (FOB or EXW) and production time as separate lines.
Hevea slab FAQ
Is a Hevea live-edge slab a single piece of wood?
Usually not. Hevea trees are relatively slim, so wide tops are glued from several boards, and a live-edge top keeps the natural bark line on one or both long edges. Ask the workshop how many boards the top is glued from and to photograph the glue lines before finishing.
How long can a Hevea slab be?
Standard tops typically run to 3000 mm, with custom lengths up to about 4000 mm. Live-edge dining and boardroom slabs are typically made up to about 3.5 m. Longer pieces are possible at some workshops but cost more to make and to crate.
Can cracks and voids in a live-edge slab be filled?
Yes. Live-edge slabs can be epoxy-stabilized, where clear or tinted epoxy fills cracks, knots and voids so the surface is flat and sealed. Say in your request whether you want the fill to be invisible, tinted or a visible feature.
Will I see the exact slab before it ships?
That is the point of the service. Ask the matched workshop to photograph the actual piece in natural light with a tape measure in the frame, and again at glue-up, planing and final finish. Approve the photos before it is crated.
